about
This song is in memory of Chalyce Meek, Sheldon Chew, Danielle Handrahan, and all those who have taken their own lives after battling with mental illnesses.
This song can be downloaded for free, or pay what you want.
All proceeds will be donated to the PEI Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association. Not a cent of it will go to me.
In our society today, mental illnesses such as depression are still stigmatized. They're seen as attention seeking, made up, a cry for help.
Well this is a cry for help.
We need to stop caring about mental health only when it's too late and we've already lost yet another friend, family member, or loved one. We need to start caring all of the time and not just when it's convenient for ourselves, or when there's a hashtag to use.
We need to tell our stories, and not be ashamed. We need to embrace those who have shared their own stories, and not judge them. We need to give support, and we need to receive it. This is a battle we're all fighting. Whether you yourself struggle with your own mental health or someone you know does, it affects each and every single one of us.
We can't ignore this any longer. No one should have to fight alone.
Sometimes I think I see you from the corner of my eye
And on the faces of strangers walking by
Sometimes I swear it's like you're still right there
Like you never left and there's pieces of you everywhere
And in everything
You were right we were sober for too much of it
I haven't been sober in days to make up for it
Do you think if we gathered up enough souls that God would be willing to trade?
Because I can't stand the thought of you not being here and your body beginning to fade
And I'm terrified to think that all of our memories could be next
Like the way your eyes get when you smile and the way your breath feels against my neck
"I love you til death" was a lie because I still do
And there's pieces of you in every single thing that I do
Who will hold my hand when I cross the street?
Who will hold me up when I'm weak?
Without you here I'm the one who's become meek
I'll let life take me for granted
Just as you took life for granted
In the room that my heart raced
In the room that your heart stopped
I'd burn that room to the ground
Without a second thought
I just hope that my words can reach you
I'm so sorry that I wasn't there for you
